On 22nd September 2013, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China and State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) jointly awarded 497 companies and 795 comrades honorary titles of “Outstanding units of state-own key enterprises” and “Model workers of state-owned key enterprises”

respectively. Among them, Colombo International Container Terminals Ltd. (CICT) was awarded the honorary title of “Outstanding unit of state-owned key enterprises”. CICT is a joint venture between China Merchants Holdings (International) Co., Ltd. (CMHI) with 85% ownership which is under the umbrella of China Merchants Group (CMG), and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) holding the balance 15%.

CICT is the first overseas Greenfield port project of CMHI. For the past 2 years since the official commencement of the project, as an Chinese enterprise investing in overseas market, CICT keeping with its responsibilities, assimilated the business targets of SASAC, CMG and CMHI to “China Dream” and had great achievements in the material progress and cultural and ideological progress with the practice of unity, pragmatism, gumption, scientific development, faithful and trustworthy. The honorable leaders of China and Sri Lanka are full of praise for the achievements and performances of CICT.

The project commenced operations July 2013, ahead of the agreed time frame, with a construction period of little over one year. With the many achievements and now with the honorary title, CICT is well set to be considered as a role model for Chinese enterprises investing overseas.
