    M.V. Ane Maersk, the world's pioneer large methanol-enabled container vessel at CICT

     M.V. Ane Maersk, the world's pioneer large methanol-enabled container vessel, recently completed its inaugural visit to the Port of Colombo at the Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT) on February 24th, 2024.

    With its cutting-edge design focused on enhancing fuel efficiency, M.V. Ane Maersk signifies a new era of environmentally-conscious transportation. It serves as a blueprint for low-emission solutions, setting a remarkable precedent for sustainable shipping practices worldwide. Notably, it is the first among Maersk's fleet of 18 large methanol-enabled vessels and the second methanol-enabled container vessel globally.

    Commencing its service on February 9th, 2024 along the AE7 string, which connects Asia and Europe, via Colombo (calling at CICT), the vessel's port calls include prominent locations such as Shanghai, Tanjung Pelepas and Hamburg. Its maiden call at the Port of Colombo stands as a significant moment in its journey.

    Constructed by Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea, the container vessel boasts a nominal capacity of 16,000 containers (TEU). Equipped with a dual-fuel engine, it can operate on methanol, biodiesel, and conventional bunker fuel, showcasing its versatility and commitment to sustainable energy sources.

    M.V. Ane Maersk calling at CICT, not only highlights the port's significance as a key maritime hub but also underscores the commitment of the industry towards embracing sustainable practices.

    Hosting this vessel was indeed an honor, signifying a collaborative effort towards a greener and more environmentally-responsible future in shipping. Sustainability and green practices are directly aligned with CICT’s many ESG initiatives and goals.
